Data Privacy at FlightWorthy
Data Privacy at FlightWorthy, FlyFlightWorthy, and FlySafeAware
At FlightWorthy, we understand that aircraft owners, pilots, and A&Ps want the benefits of digital aircraft management without sacrificing privacy. Because aviation data comes from many different sources, it's important to understand what information is public, what information is private, and how your data is protected within the FlightWorthy ecosystem.
Public Data vs. Private Data
Public Aviation Data
When you first begin using FlyFlightWorthy.com, FlySafeAware.com, or the FlySafe AI assistant, much of the information available comes from public aviation sources.
Examples include:
FAA aircraft registration records
Aircraft ownership records available through the FAA registry
Tail number (N-number) information
Aircraft make and model information
Airport information
Aviation weather data
NOTAMs
Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs)
Public FAA Airworthiness Directives (ADs)
Publicly available FAA guidance and regulations
This information is already available through government and aviation databases. FlightWorthy simply organizes it into an easy-to-use format that helps owners, pilots, and maintenance professionals make better decisions.
What Happens When You Add Your Aircraft?
Once you add your aircraft to FlyFlightWorthy, you begin adding information that is not publicly available.
Examples include:
Hobbs time
Tach time
Oil changes
Maintenance history
Discrepancy lists (D-Lists)
Project tracking
Parts purchases
Maintenance notes
Preflight findings
Debrief notes
Pilot observations
Aircraft-specific checklists
Uploaded documents
This information is stored securely in the FlightWorthy.org backend and associated with your aircraft's tail number.
Unlike FAA registration information, this data belongs to you and remains private.
Who Can See My Aircraft Data?
FlightWorthy uses an owner-controlled access model.
The aircraft owner controls who can access aircraft information.
Only the following individuals can view your private aircraft data:
The aircraft owner
Pilots specifically authorized by the owner
A&Ps specifically authorized by the owner
IA mechanics authorized by the owner
Members of owner-created aircraft groups
No one else can see this information.
You can add or remove participants at any time.
FlySafe AI and Data Privacy
One of the most powerful features of FlightWorthy is the FlySafe AI assistant.
When you enter maintenance information such as:
Hobbs readings
Oil changes
Squawks
Maintenance discrepancies
Inspection findings
AD compliance status
FlySafe AI uses that information to create a plain-language assessment of your aircraft's status.
For example, instead of reviewing dozens of maintenance records, FlySafe AI can summarize:
> "Aircraft is current on annual inspection, oil change due in 8.5 hours, one open discrepancy involving landing light operation, and all known Airworthiness Directives are currently satisfied."
The data used by FlySafe AI remains private and is only available to authorized users of that aircraft.
FlySafe AI does not make your maintenance information public.
FlySafeAware.com and Aircraft Following
FlySafeAware.com has evolved into a front-end utility that works alongside FlightWorthy.
The platform allows users to:
Follow general aviation aircraft
Search by tail number
Search by owner name
View publicly available aircraft information
Connect aircraft activity across multiple public data sources
The goal is to create a better community experience for general aviation owners and pilots.
Following Aircraft
To follow an aircraft, a user typically provides:
Tail number (N-number)
Aircraft owner name
Other publicly available registration information
This information is sourced from public FAA records.
Unknown Aircraft and Private Labels
Sometimes an aircraft may appear as "Unknown" because complete registry information is unavailable.
In these situations, users may assign a custom name or label to help identify the aircraft.
Examples:
"Hangar Neighbor"
"Bob's Cub"
"Training Aircraft"
These custom labels are private to the user who created them and are not visible to others.
Email Addresses and Phone Numbers
FlightWorthy takes special care with personal contact information.
Email Addresses
Email addresses are used to:
Identify users
Associate users with aircraft
Link multiple aircraft owned or flown by the same individual
Manage access permissions
Email addresses are private and are not displayed publicly.
Phone Numbers
Phone numbers, such as 727-644-3433, are used only for:
Login verification
Account security
Authentication checks
Phone numbers are private and are never exposed to other users.
Groups and Collaboration
FlightWorthy was designed to support collaborative aircraft ownership and maintenance.
Owners can create groups that include:
Owners
Pilots
A&Ps
IAs
Maintenance teams
Group information remains private to the members authorized by the aircraft owner.
Only approved participants can view aircraft-specific discussions, maintenance items, projects, and records.
Our Privacy Philosophy
FlightWorthy follows a simple principle:
Public aviation data stays public. Private aircraft data stays private.
We leverage publicly available FAA, weather, airport, and regulatory information to help owners operate safer aircraft.
At the same time, we protect the information that only you know about your aircraft:
Maintenance history
Hobbs readings
Oil changes
Squawks
Pilot notes
Inspection findings
Project status
Group communications
That information is visible only to the owner and those individuals the owner chooses to authorize.
The Bottom Line
FlightWorthy combines the power of public aviation data with the security of private aircraft management.
Public FAA registration, weather, airport, TFR, and regulatory information help drive aircraft awareness and planning. Private operational and maintenance data remain protected within the FlightWorthy platform and are shared only with the owner, authorized pilots, and authorized maintenance professionals.
Our mission is simple:
Make aircraft ownership safer, more transparent, and easier to manage—while keeping your private aircraft information private.
